Technology has advanced incredibly throughout the years, ranging from but not limited to, medical equipment, mobile devices, computers, internet services and content, science equipment, and much more. The world of technology is changing and evolving rapidly before our eyes, but technology hasn’t always been as advanced as it is today and not everyone got the opportunity to grow up learning this new technology as it became available, thus resulting in our society being divided into two categories, ‘Digital Natives’ and ‘Digital Immigrants’. Although many individuals see this advancing technology as being beneficial, others also argue that it is causing problems. However, they are not wrong, because both ‘Digital Natives’ and Digital†¦show more content†¦Whereas today cellphones have evolved into smartphones, which have almost endless features such as, cameras, capability to stream music and videos, wide variety of apps, access to the internet, calculator, and a calendar to name a few. The internet is another technology that has come a long way, starting out as dial-up that was connected to the user’s home phone service, which only allowed the user to either be on the internet or on the phone, but never at the same time. Today’s internet is not required to be connected to the user’s home phone service anymore and is much faster at connecting and loading content. There is even an option to have Wi-Fi, which allows the user to connect their smartphones, computers, laptops, tablets, televisions, gaming consoles, and any device that is Wi-Fi compatible, wirelessly to the internet. Technology has advanced in many other way, these are just to name a few of them. A ‘Digital Native’ is defined as an individual who was born after the introduction of digital technology. As Brian Keith Sullivan, the author of â€Å"Are you a Digital Native or a Digital Immigrant?’, describes à ¢â‚¬Å"Digital Natives use online services like Facebook, YouTube, Hulu, and Twitter on various digital technologies, such as smartphones or a tablet device. Theirplan works well, they take them Sandy and Pasty hostage and they getboth teams to come out and stop them. The IRAs goal is only to takeout about 5 of the Rainbow Six teams enough to disable them. Then theyhave the same problem the terrorist in Spain did they used cell phonesso when Rainbow used there scrambler they started to fall apart. Someof the IRA people tried to escape unsuccessfully and others stayed withthe hostages to use as bargaining tools. The physiologist on the teamwas able to talk them into surrendering. No civilian casualties, but 2Rainbow people where killed and one injured. Most of the IRA peoplewere killed except a few of them and, the leader he was badly injured. When the leader was coming out of unconsciousness they managed trickinghim into talking and telling them who put him up to this. They managedto track it back to Popov, but they could not find him, he was in NewYork by now. The ending is slightlycomedic. This book was extremely well written, giving you clues as to what ishappening as it goes along. I found that character development was donevery well, you could relate to everyone, understand them and know whatthey where going to do next. In the 1980s, injection drug users were one of the main reasons of the HIV outbreak (B S, 106) which is correlated to the rise of the homeless population during that time period. Our society is structured in a way that makes it exceedingly difficult for the ones to ascend from poverty. In Wright and Rogers’ American Society, there are three explanations for the persisting poverty: blaming the victim, blaming society, and social conditions. Blaming the victim is rationalized by literally blaming the victim. The individual is poor for a reason so there must be some sort of flaw within the poor people. On the other side, society is blamed because an individual who is poor will remain poor regardless of how hard they work or their ambition, though there are people who are poor because of their personal attributes. Lastly, third explanation is a comprised of ideas from the former two and suggests that the American school system is at fault because they do not provide adequate education for the poor. Social and living conditions make it hard for people in poverty to get out and largely affect children. The sexual abuse that Tina suffered from when she was young was also another contributing factor. She resents people who think low of her because of her sex, as shown in her fight with Frank (B S, 66). Often times the homeless people were sent to jail for possession, public urination and/or intoxication, or sleeping outside (B S, 112-113). Society has criminalized those who needed to be treated and while they’re in jail they experience withdrawal symptoms. Once they’re released, many of them do not have anywhere or any jobs to go. Relapsing is a high probability because some do not have a social network or support to help them. In the 1990s and 2000s the only form of post aid was the Narcotics Anonymous, which caused Tina to fall back into the addiction after the program ended (B S, 281). The correlation between social forces and their role in producing addicts is described in the life of the homeless. The book gives us better insight to the homeless culture and it does not hold back in showing the hardships of addiction. It further educates the public in hopes of decreasing skepticism and raising awareness. Among the most prominent names in Latin America’s list of authoritarian governments are Somoza of Nicaragua, Batista of Cuba, Duvalier of Haiti, Trujillo of Dominican Republic, Peron of Argentina, Noriega of Panama, and Pinochet of Chile. The path to power that is quite common among them is the coup d’etat. A number of these dictators were brought to power after they had overthrown duly elected governments. Despite the fact that major parts of the region were under military dictatorships for long time, there were still traditional parties that did assert their influence on politics in each of the countries in Latin America. The impa ct of the traditional political parties in governance was, however, reduced with the rise of authoritarian regimes. It must be pointed out though that it was the main characteristics of the said political parties that brought about the emergence of dictators and despots. In the 19th century, when many of the countries in region won their independence from Spain and other colonizers, political power was exclusively held by the upper classes, particularly the landed and the business elites. However, the upper classes were also divided when it comes to issues related to how their country must be governed. Upon the departure of the Spanish colonialists, political debates revolved around the treatment of the Catholic Church, which virtually shared power with the colonial administrators, as well as the form of government to be established in post-colonial and modern Latin America (Bray 76). The liberals wanted a state that is absolutely free from the meddling of the Church, a form of gove rnment that devolves power to the localities, and capitalism. The conservatives, on the other hand, insisted that the Church should retain the privileges and power that it has had since the colonial era. They wanted a more centralized form of government and the protection of the interests of the landed elite. The liberals and conservatives of the 19th century were the origins of the traditional parties that later on developed and gained greater influence by the 1900s. It is clear though that with such respective agenda, neither of the two political forces had the democratic interests of the masses in their minds, although the liberals were sympathetic to the masses because they need public support for their issues against the conservatives. However, both the liberals and the conservatives do not address â€Å"the basic problem of incorporating masses of Indians and Negroes into society or to the overwhelming poverty and ignorance of the general population† (Bray 76). Hence, e ven if government power changed hands between the two, real democracy did not occur but the traditional political parties remained.
